Artdoc Photography Magazine - Issue 1/2020
Artdoc Photography Magazine
In this issue
Photography is the gateway to humanity on earth. Photographs show who we are and what we think of ourselves; they are windows and mirrors at the same time, transparent and opaque, perplexing and confusing. Photography is the visual storytelling medium of our time, and it’s deeply permeated in the veins of our society and culture.
This is the first issue of Artdoc Photo Magazine. In this issue, we bring photographers for whom the image is a way of expressing the provocative, abrasive and inquisitive relationship with the world.
The Norwegian Ole Marius Joergensen made Hopper like scenes, depicting his melancholic feeling of never arriving at the goal.
The Dutch photographer Erwin Olaf uses photography as a medium to tell stories that connect his inner life with the world around him. His cinematic images, representing emotions of modern times, are aesthetic and confronting at the same time.
In ‘photo culture’ we bring an introduction to the semiology of photography, the theory that analyses the often-hidden way in which images communicate.
Artdoc is an international online magazine dedicated to the world of photography. We aim at connecting the community of photography, including photographers, publishers, museums, galleries, collectors, art students, and every interested person in the world of lens-based arts. We believe that photography is the most relevant global plastic form of art. Photography is a tool to communicate about the world that surrounds us and our feelings about it. Photography is the visual storytelling medium of our time, and it's deeply pervaded in the veins of our society and culture. The art of photography is not limited to the aesthetics of the images themselves but encompasses the story behind them. The name Artdoc refers to our vision of photography. The former distinction between art photography and documentary photography is not relevant anymore. In recent years, the two fields have merged, and contemporary photography is a blend of mirrors and windows.
