The catalogue was published in conjunction with an exhibition held at the Historischen Museum Hanau Schloss Philippsruhe and the Klassik Stiftung Weimar, Schiller-Museum. The catalogue raisonné was compiled by Manfred Pix, Katharina Bott, Viola Geyersbach, and Margarete Oppel. In addition to the catalogue raisonné, the publication contains a short biography of the artist. There are also essays on Bury's copies after Italian paintings, his career in Rome, and his relationship with Goethe.
