Edouard Manet: catalogue raisonné. Volume I: Peintures
The two-volume catalogue raisonné published under the leadership of Denis Rouart and Daniel Wildenstein in 1975 is an update of Paul Jamot and Georges Wildenstein’s 1932 catalogue critique of the œuvre of Édouard Manet (1832–1883). Notices and attributions have been revised, while the first volume catalogues the paintings, and the second inventories Manet’s pastels, watercolors, and drawings. Each work is reproduced and is the object of a critical analysis. The annex includes a list of exhibitions, bibliography, and indexes.
Second updated and revised edition of the 1932 Jamot/Wildenstein publication. This book catalogues 430 paintings by the artist. Unlike the earlier catalogue, the second edition includes a catalogue of nearly 679 watercolors and drawings by the artist. Also, works of doubtful attribution are excluded. The appendix contains Manet's family tree, the artist's will and post mortem inventory, and excerpts of writings about Manet by his contemporaries.
