This five-volume catalogue contains: v.1: Introduction, Science, Chronology, Index, Guide -- v.2-v.3-v.4: Catalogue of paintings (some 584 works) -- v.5: Catalogue of sketches and an illustrated bibliography (compiled by Krzystof Cieszkowski). The "Users' Guide" in the first volume of the set provides detailed information regarding the various criteria used for the forming of this publication and its catalogue. It contains information on dating, titles, destroyed and abandoned works, and references to the Rothenstein/Alley monograph.
