Description

The sculptor François Girardon (1628–1715), a collaborator of Charles Le Brun in Versailles, created large sculptural groups for the royal castle and its gardens, including Apollon Servi par les Nymphes of the Bosquet des Bains d’Apollon. This publication demonstrates how Girardon, a “disciplined genius,” contributed to the success of French classical art.

The catalogue is organized chronologically, listing title, material, bibliographical references, notes with contemporary references, comments, and location. There is a bibliography of primary sources and printed works.
