The publication is organized chronologically; each section contains a discussion of the artist's activities followed by a catalogue of works produced during that period. There is a separate biography of the artist by Giorgio Pajetta. The first volume covers the artist's youthful years, followed by his metaphysical and surrealist works, his sojourn in Paris in the 1930s, the war years, and his second trip to Paris in 1947-1950. This is followed by a critical anthology. The second volume covers the later part of his career with the years 1964 through 1987. This volume also contains the artist's biography and a bibliography.
