The catalogue covers the 2,978 watercolor and oil paintings for which there were known locations in 1968. The catalogue is arranged chronologically, and all works are illustrated as thumbnails. Appendicies include a chronological list of paintings known only through the records of the American Art Research Council, which had partially compiled an unpublished catalogue raisonné of Marin's work.
