The catalogue includes a biography of the artist, a study of his milieu and artistic career, and a discussion of La Joüe's place French art during the first third of the 18th century. Additional information is supplied regarding patrons and Lajoüe's rapport with the amateur scientific community of the society of artists. There are indices, but cross references to the illustrations are poor and not comprehensive.
