Description

The first section of the catalogue critique of Nicolas Lancret’s (1690–1743) œuvre focuses on important aspects of the artist’s life such as his friendship with Antoine Watteau, how Lancret became known as a painter of “fêtes galantes,” and his success among European courts and contemporary collectors. The remainder of the publication is dedicated to the inventory of 787 paintings, which are arranged in thirty thematic sections.

The unillustrated catalogue gives number, title, (references to illustrations), and critical information if the work is a pendant, etc. It also provides some production information, provenance, sale information, and bibliographical references.
