This is an exhaustive scholarly study of Rothko's paintings on canvas and hard supports. The present catalogue excludes paintings on paper; these will be the subject of the forthcoming catalogue raisonné of Rothko's works on paper (see entry cited in this database). The catalogue raisonné is divided into three parts: the Early Years (1924-59); Years of Transition (1940-1950); and the Classic Years (1951-1970). The publication includes a list of works in public collections, bibliography, and a general index.
